Why it is called barra de potosi? Por que se le llama barra de potosi?

There is a lagoon of 16 km, called “laguna de potosi”, where in a certain determined time it is full of water or on a low level of water, depending on the rainy season. When the water flowsfrom the lagoon to the sea, there is a sand barrier (barrier=barra) that separates the lagoon from the ocean. When the lagoon is full of water the sand barrier becomes thinner and it opens forming a connection with the ocean . afterwards the waves enter to the lagoon with strong force and is depositing sand and… here we have the sand barrier! this natural process repeats every year. “Potosi” means in Mexican Indian language: richness.If you want to see the sand barrier when it is open, please check this video on youtube.

Hay una laguna de 16 km, llamada "laguna de potosi" donde en un cierto tiempo se llena de agua o baja el nivel del agua, dependiendo la temporada de llubia. donde desemboca el agua desde la laguna asta el mar, hay una barra de arena que separa la laguna del oceano. cuando la lagunaesta llena de agua la barra de arena se buelve delgada se rompe haciendo una coneccion con el oceano
. despues, cuando las fuertes olas entran ala desembocadura, deposita arena y.. tenemos la barra de arena!! esto es un proceso natural que se repite año con año. "potosi" en una lengua indijena
